The Shadow Quartet w / special guest Simon Beddoe

Friday 24th May

7pm

The Chemic Tavern

Presented by Jazz Club

For their first  LJF '24 session, Jazz Club have camped up in one of their absolute favourite Leeds hangs, the legendary Chemic. A community pub, which favours a warm welcome, a good pint and a shedload of music

Jazz Club want to bring something pretty special for their back room, and thought of their old friends The Shadow Quartet, an outfit truly worthy of this hallowed ground.

Expect to hear spiritual jazz from the sixties and seventies drawing on influences from the likes of Joe Henderson, Alice Coltrane, Chico Hamilton and the sounds of the Impulse record label.

The Shadow Quartet’s musical heritage is so tight you could bounce a quid off it, consisting of former member for Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra, an award winning soloist and composer, a member of Submotion Orchestra and a legend on the free music scene who has played with Peter Brötzmann, Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Marshall Allen as well as collaborating with Squarepusher.

The Shadow Quartet consists of:
Leon Johnson tenor / Paul Baxter bass / Paul Hession drums / Jonnie Khan guitar and special guest Simon Beddoe trumpet

Not one to be missed. JC residents will be spinning records when needed.
