Harry Rook
Quickly developing an eclectic taste at an early age, Harry Rook has always been in search for the perfect track with no limits. A fascination soon started with the history of sound and how new genres have developed over the years, now becoming recognised for his wide knowledge of music.
Born and bred in York, he pinpoints his first real love for music coming from disco & funk, which commenced a dedication for collecting vinyl. Not satisfied with listening to one style, Harry next started consuming hip hop and jazz - recognising how notable producers like DJ Premier or J Dilla were obsessives of deep digging, searching for samples and seeking influences outside of the status quo.
Ever since this point, he has been on a sonic journey with one mantra in mind: that all genres and styles are linked in some sort of way. Harry put this idea to the test during lockdown in 2020, starting a now highly regarded radio show on Jorvik Radio 94.8FM every Tuesday night in York, entitled There Are No Genres, before realising that this would be his true passion within music. In particular, he holds a high regard for new music, truly believing that following this is important if you wish to remain current.
Now based in Leeds, Harry hosts a bi-monthly residency on the Leeds community radio station, Alto Radio. He has recently joined Leeds dance station LDC Radio 97.8FM, presenting uptempo soulful selections every Saturday morning as the perfect start to your weekend.
You can hear him regularly play in bars / clubs around the city - holding a monthly residency at Eat Your Greens, whilst also making appearances at other venues ranging from Belgrave Music Hall to Chow Down. Harry's selector skills are heavily influenced by DJs like Theo Parrish and Floating Points, alongside being further influenced by club nights like Cosmic Slop and formerly Rhumboogie. Expect to hear anything ranging from post-punk, UK garage, drill, bossa nova, rnb and much more.
